ADVANCED ECOPROGRAMS Youth Ages (15 – 18)
Youth between the ages of 15 and 18 are eligible for advanced EcoPrograms. These EcoPrograms are for experienced youth and enrollment preference is extended to ITE members.
EPIC EXPERIENCE– Epic Experience utilizes experience and outdoor skills, knowledge and leadership in backpacking, orienteering, ecology, camping, rock climbing, naturalist studies, primitive skills and sustainable practices acquired in Get Outside, Get Experience and Expeditionary Experience EcoPrograms. Teams of 2 to 4 are responsible for creating an in-depth backdoor to back country plan and teams work with an experienced teen mentor and an ITE staff, who will provide support both in and out of the field. Teams experience their journey without the constant supervision of an ITE staff and therefore must demonstrate competency in all skills achieved in previous programs. In the backcountry ITE staff provides back country “shadow” support for added safety.
EXPEDITIONARY – Expeditions expand the range of experiences from remote sky island canyons to well beyond the Sonoran Desert boundaries. At this level, teens are expected to be strongly familiar with basic adventure procedures, Leave No Trace principles, leadership practices and naturalist skills. Teens are required to provide a 1/2 hour public presentation on their Expeditionary experience.
GLOBAL EXPERIENCE/AMERICAN EXPERIENCE – GlobalX and AmericanX are for teens 16-18, with extensive ITE program experience and a strong desire for challenge and adventure. GlobalX and AmericanX extends the geography of experience to new ecological communities and associated cultures. Teens must be willing to attempt new experiences and agree to actively participate in preparing and conducting presentations in the field and in front of an audience. Teens are required to deliver a group 1 hour public presentation on their Expedition experience. GlobalX and AmericanX are offered on alternative years. AmericanX is offered in summer 2015.
