Community Naturalist Internship

This is a storytelling and community action internship for high school youth, ages 14-20.

Interns will receive special training about Tucson’s culture, history, and ecology. Then, they’ll hit the streets to tell their stories.

Interns receive a $400 stipend for completing all program requirements.

Staff Training

Staff have been engaged in ITE’s most robust training program to date.

Developing a sense of place, seeing interpretation in action, and participating in a BioBlitz are just some of the activities that have prepared us to start this new season with a bang.

Field Studies for Schools Outing #1:

ITE Live!

Isaac, Paige, and Jak live streamed to Sahuarita HS from Mission Garden – near Chuk-son’s birthplace.

They talked to Mr. Lehr’s class about the important role of bees in our ecosystem and launched our field season in style!

Educator Meet n’ Greet

Teachers and educators were invited to enjoy food and nature activities with ITE staff.

They learned about different programs they can get their students involved in. Then, they observed lizards and ants during staff-led activities!

Summer Program – June

Nature & Culture Beyond Borders

ITE staff and 6 interns led 7 youth participants on trips throughout the Borderlands. This program connected them with the amazing diversity of Tucson’s unique geography.

Youth and their families came together to celebrate the completion of the program on día del San Juan.

A Milestone – July 5, 2023

ITE Turns 18 years old!

We’ve officially reached adulthood.

Eighteen years of connecting youth with their communities through experiences in nature. Happy Birthday, ITE!

Two new folks joined the ITE team. Welcome, Miranda and Jak!

Miranda is taking on the position of Engagement Coordinator and Jak will be filling the role of Program Coordinator.
