Youth Engaged Stewardship! Program Begins May 20

The YES! program is a partnership between Ironwood Tree Experience, Chris In-Albon, Cienega Watershed Partnership and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The programs takes place over nine sessions during the months of June and July. Up to twelve youth ages 15 to 19 are selected from applications submitted by May 8. Transportation from Tucson and Vail is provided to the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area which is managed by the BLM. Students who attend all session receive up to a $250 stipend for their work.

The first sessions include an orientation to the area and an overview of the management issues. Mid program, students engage in activities such as assessing site conditions, training in facilitation and project planning. During the final sessions participants carry out a project and evaluate their efforts.

The adult leaders include experienced environmental educators from Empire High School, Ironwood Tree Experience, Cienega Watershed Partnership with support from experts in ecology, botany, herpetology, mammalogy and much more!
