Community Naturalist Internship!
Internship Description
Our Community Naturalist Internship is a storytelling and community action internship for high school youth, ages 14-19. Interns will receive special training on interpretation and the sharing of stories about Tucson culture, history, and ecology. As a group, our interns will engage their interpretation skills in various areas around Tucson such as parts of Tucson’s Santa Cruz River community, Chuk-son Trail (an interpretive walk that explores what makes Sonoran Desert living so fascinating) and Mission Garden. Through this program, interns will gain experience that will prepare them for future opportunities with local partners such as Mission Garden. By connecting their life experiences, culture, and learnings, interns will conclude their internship with a collaborative presentation at the BEYOND event on January 16, 2027.
By participating in our internship you can:

APPLY by October 18th!
The process for selecting applicants requires significant collaboration and time. The ITE team looks over various factors such as-age, grade, and new/return status- when making application decisions. Please keep in mind that if an applicant is not accepted, it is due to the factors mentioned above in an effort to provide accurate and comfortable lessons, information, and activities for everyone attending the program. Please make sure to get your application submitted as soon as possible as we tend to have a waitlist after we reach our capacity. Thank you for your time and understanding.
Please review the following calendar and if you foresee any conflicts or have any questions about the internship program, please reach out to the Engagement Coordinator, Genesis Herrera, at genesis@ironwoodtreeexperience.org
